SURVEY: Over 150M People Plan to Shop the Saturday Before Christmas

By Alexa Rodriguez Dec 18, 2020 Procrastinators still abound this holiday season, a new survey finds, despite retailers ranging from Target to Best Buy trying to encourage consumers to shop earlier than ever to avoid crowded stores and backlogged warehouses in the final days leading up to Christmas. More than 150 million Americans are planning to shop on the final Saturday before Christmas, up slightly from 147.8 million in 2019, according to a survey released Thursday by the National Retail Federation. NRF surveyed 8,092 consumers from Nov. 25 through Dec. 4, in a partnership with Prosper Insights & Analytics. The number of expected shoppers on the day, which is known as “Super Saturday,” includes those planning to shop in stores and buy online, NRF said. The trade group said this marks the second-highest figure reported since NRF began tracking the Super Saturday statistic in 2016.
